Foreigners ask the same card questions at Turkish branches: foreign income, tourist stamps, extra cards, SMS OTP, and what a decline actually means on KKB.

General information only. Not an offer of credit and not advice to use any bank.

Can I apply with only a passport and a tourist stamp?

Usually you can start a conversation. You often cannot finish a revolving credit file. Card underwriting sits on an identified customer: TC Kimlik or an 11-digit foreigner ID, a reachable phone, and an address the bank will accept. A tourist stay with no residence basis is a common stall, not a secret product. Ask the branch whether they can board your ID type before you fill five online forms.

Do I need a vadesiz hesap first?

In practice, yes at most banks. The card is a product on a customer record. The current account is how they pay you, charge fees, and sometimes sweep the statement. Opening the account and applying for a high-limit card on the same visit is two products. The account can succeed while the card waits.

What documents do they actually use?

Marketing lists are long. Files that move tend to include:

  • ID: Turkish ID or passport plus foreigner ID showing the 11-digit number
  • Address: ikametgah or a recent bill in your name
  • Income: recent payslips, SGK service printout, or for company owners the tax pack the branch named
  • A local mobile number that receives OTP

Bring originals. Phone photos of a passport are not a substitute on the first KYC visit. Exact lists differ. Confirm with the bank.

They asked for SGK. I am paid from abroad. Is the file dead?

Not automatically. Foreign income is not automatically accepted either. Banks like formats they already use. Ask which documents they will read: contract, sworn translation, tax residence letter, bank statements into the Turkish account. Do not invent a pack from another country’s credit-card checklist. If they cannot verify income, they may still offer a debit card and a later retry, not a revolving limit today.

Can I use my spouse’s income?

Not as your primary card income. That is a different product: an additional (supplementary) card on their account, or a separate application in their name. Putting someone else’s salary on your form is a mismatch, not a strategy.

What is the difference between a primary card and an ek kart?

The primary card is underwritten on your file: your KKB, your income, your limit. An additional card (ek kart) usually shares that limit. The extra cardholder is not getting a second underwriting miracle. Spending still lands on the primary statement. If the bank offers a youth or additional product, read who is liable.

How much limit should I request?

Ask for a number you can document against monthly income, not the campaign ceiling on the landing page. A common self-inflicted fail is a thin Turkish file plus a limit that looks like a year’s rent. Underwriting is a ratio check, not a negotiation in the queue. You can request a raise later with months of clean repayment.

Illustrative example only: if documented net income is X, a first limit far above X is more likely to be cut or refused than a modest limit the same bank can watch. Confirm the bank’s own income rules. Do not treat a blog multiple as a fact.

Does applying online skip the branch?

It skips the ticket machine, not KYC. If the system cannot match ID or income, you will be sent to a branch or declined. SMS OTP that never arrives is a digital dead end. Fix the number before you blame the app.

Will a rejected application destroy my score?

The rejection is not a separate secret penalty. The inquiry can sit on KKB. Several inquiries in a short window look worse than one complete file. Space serious applications. Fix the documented reason. Then try one product that matches the file.

I was “pre-approved” in the app. Is that a yes?

It is a marketing screen based on incomplete data. The real check still runs: bureau, income, KYC. Treat pre-approval as “you may start a form,” not as a contract.

How long until I can use the card?

Decision, production, courier, and activation are different clocks. A clerk’s “a few days” often means the decision, not plastic in your hand. Activate through the official channel, set a PIN you do not reuse, and turn on transaction SMS. Make a small on-us purchase before you travel.

What fees should I read before I accept?

Open the current ücret ve komisyon table:

  • Annual card fee, and whether a campaign waives year one only
  • Cash advance (nakit avans) interest, which is not purchase interest
  • FX / yurt dışı usage if you spend in other currencies
  • Late payment and over-limit fees

Taksit campaigns are optional. The fee table is not.

Can I apply at several banks the same week to “see who says yes”?

You can. KKB will record the inquiries. That is a common way to turn a maybe into a cluster of nos. One complete file at the bank that already sees your salary is usually more coherent than five clicks.

I have a strong score in my home country. Can I show that?

You can bring it. The Turkish bank still needs a local file it can score. A letter from a foreign bureau is color, not a substitute for KKB.

What should I ask if the answer is no?

Ask for the bucket: identity/KYC, income documentation, or credit file. You will not always get a detailed letter. A branch you already bank with can often tell you which bucket it was. Work that bucket for weeks, not hours.

Does Valrun rank banks or get me approved?

No. Valrun is not a lender. This page does not rank banks and does not submit applications. The “best” card is the one whose written terms and document list match your file.
