Age on a Turkish card is a product rule on the bank’s sheet, not a score you can talk around. Confirm the floor, any upper cap, and who is liable on an ek kart.

Not a table of bank ages. Those lists go stale. Confirm the current product sheet. Not legal advice on majority or guardianship.

Age is eligibility, then underwriting still runs

If you are below the product’s minimum, the file should not start. If you are inside the band, you still face KYC, income, and KKB. Turning 18 does not create a bureau history. Turning 65 does not erase one.

Many retail unsecured cards in Turkey use 18 as a floor because that is typical majority for contracting. Some products sit higher. Some additional-card products are aimed at younger family members under a parent’s primary account. None of those sentences is a promise that your bank uses those numbers. Ask for the written age range on the specific card code you want.

Do not rely on a blog table that names banks and maximum ages. Those figures are often invented or outdated. This page will not publish one.

Under 18: what actually exists

A child is not a standard primary revolving borrower. What you may see in the market (confirm each one):

  • Ek kart / supplementary on a parent’s or guardian’s credit card, with spend on the primary limit
  • Debit on a vadesiz hesap the bank allows for that age
  • Prepaid products that are not KKB revolving credit

If a clerk talks about a “youth credit card,” ask three questions:

  1. Is it a primary card in the young person’s name, or ek kart?
  2. Who is legally liable for the balance?
  3. Does it report to KKB as the young person’s file, the parent’s, or both?

Do not assume a mall “student card” is independent underwriting. If the bank wants a parent at the desk, that is the product.

Newly 18, thin file

The age gate opens. The bureau is still empty. Typical outcomes: modest limit, extra income questions, or a no until there is SGK or a documented wage. A first job with payslips at the bank that pays the wage is more useful than a campaign aimed at “young professionals.”

Mistakes in this band:

  • Applying at several banks the week of a birthday
  • Asking for a high limit with no income document
  • Treating ek kart history as a full primary file

“Under 21” extra checks

Some banks tighten rules for younger adults even after 18: extra ID, parent contact, lower starting limit. That is risk policy, not a national law you can quote at the desk. If they ask for more documents, bring them or pick a simpler product. Arguing that another bank “does not do this” does not change this product sheet.

Older applicants and upper caps

Some unsecured products publish a maximum age for new cards or for cardholders at renewal. Caps differ by product (credit card versus ihtiyaç kredisi versus konut kredisi). A bank may still serve you on a debit account or an existing card while refusing a new revolving limit.

If you are near a stated cap:

  • Ask whether the cap is for new applications, for additional cards, or for keeping the product at renewal
  • Ask what happens at the birthday that crosses the line (reissue, conversion to debit, closure)
  • Do not apply for a long-term plan (heavy taksit) without knowing whether the card will exist through the plan

Illustrative example only: a product that says new applications stop at a given age can still allow an existing customer to keep a card until a later review. Confirm in writing. This page will not guess the ages.

Income in retirement (pension into the vadesiz hesap) can be easier to document than informal work. A thin KKB in later life is still a thin file. Age does not replace history.

Foreigners: age plus ID type

The bank must be able to board your ID. An 18-year-old with only a tourist stamp and a foreign passport faces the same KYC stall as a 40-year-old with the same pack. Age will not rescue a missing foreigner ID number or an expired permit.

If a parent in another country would co-sign in the United States style, do not assume Turkey offers that exact product. Ask whether a local guarantor product exists. Do not invent a co-signer on the form.

What to confirm at the branch

Bring the question as a list:

  • Minimum age for this exact card product
  • Maximum age for new applications, if any
  • Rules for ek kart ages
  • Whether a student or youth name is marketing or a different contract
  • What document proves date of birth (ID card, passport)

Get the answers for the product code, not “credit cards in general.”

If age is the only blocker

Wait until you meet the floor, or use debit / ek kart if that is the real need (spend access, not an independent bureau file). If age is fine and the no is bureau or income, work that bucket. Mixing the two wastes months.
