Banks price taşıt kredisi by vehicle class: passenger car, light commercial, motorcycle, and sometimes a commercial-use flag. A type the product sheet does not list will not become eligible because the dealer says the engine is “basically the same.” The ruhsat classification is what the file sees.
This is general information, not a loan offer, and not a ranking of body styles. Valrun is not a lender. Confirm the current list with the institution that would hold the pledge.
Why type sits in the credit file
A taşıt kredisi is collateralised. The bank needs a vehicle it can value, insure, and, if you default, repossess and sell in a market it understands. That is why passenger hatchbacks, panel vans, scooters, and a 3.5-tonne truck are not one product.
Type also drives:
- Maximum term (vade) the desk will print
- Loan-to-value on appraisal
- Whether used examples are allowed at all
- Compulsory trafik tariff band and the kasko premium the lender will require
- Whether the use is treated as personal or commercial (income evidence then changes)
If you need a van for work, say so. Calling a commercial ruhsat a “family car” to squeeze into a passenger product is how compliance stops the disbursement.
Passenger cars
This is the default taşıt kredisi story: a car registered for personal use, new or used within the bank’s age and mileage bands. New cars from a dealer invoice are usually the cleanest paper. Used passenger cars add ekspertiz, damage history, and those age/km bands, which are bank policy, not a single kilometre law.
Failure modes that are type-adjacent even on a normal car:
- Grey-market or parallel import with incomplete paperwork
- Heavily modified suspension or engine that the appraisal will haircut
- A car still showing another lender’s pledge
- A model the insurer prices so high that the monthly kasko wrecks the budget you modelled on the installment alone
The bank does not rank “best cars.” It ranks financeable cars. Those lists overlap. They are not the same.
Light commercial vehicles
Panel vans, pickups, and many “ticari” registrations sit in a different bucket. Some banks have a dedicated ticari taşıt or filo-style product. Some will not finance an LCV on a consumer taşıt kredisi at all.
Expect more questions about use: delivery, construction, a company asset. A sole trader or limited company file needs tax and company documents, not only a payslip. If the vehicle is how the business earns, default risk is not only “can this household pay.” It is also “does this cashflow exist in the ledgers.”
Used LCVs often have harder mileage stories. A van at 180,000 km can be a working tool and still sit outside a consumer used-car band. Do not treat a passenger-car kilometre rumour as the van rule.
Motorcycles and other two-wheelers
Motorcycle taşıt kredisi exists at some banks and finance companies and does not exist at others. Engine size, whether the bike is new, and whether used bikes are allowed at all vary. Insurance is not optional colour: compulsory cover and any kasko the lender wants are priced differently from a car.
If the product sheet is silent on motosiklet, assume no. A personal loan can still buy the bike. That is a different rate and no pledge on the frame, with the usual unsecured-loan tradeoff.
Commercial use, taxis, rentals, conversions
Taxis, driving-school cars, rental fleet exits, and amateur “I converted the seats” jobs are frequent refusals. The ruhsat and the actual use both matter. A passenger car that has been a short-term rental can carry a damage and usage history the appraisal will not treat as a private one-owner.
Minibuses, trucks above the light band, agricultural machines, and caravans are often outside standard taşıt kredisi. There may be a separate commercial credit. There may be nothing. Ask before you bid.
Tow bars, LPG conversions, and body kits are not automatically fatal, but they change valuation and kasko. Undeclared LPG is a classic inspection and insurance problem.
New versus used is also a “type” for the desk
New (sıfır) on a dealer invoice: VIN, list price, and often a manufacturer or dealer campaign. Used (ikinci el): model year, km, ekspertiz, private or gallery seller.
Banks commonly offer longer terms or higher LTV on new cars than on used, and they commonly tighten used bands as the car ages. None of that is a promise of a cheaper total cost. A campaign rate on a new car can be offset by a higher sticker. A cheaper used car can fail the band or need a larger cash gap after appraisal.
Illustrative only: two files, same customer. Car A is new, on the passenger list, 36-month term. Car B is a used LCV, 24-month max, lower LTV. The installment on B can look “affordable” because the term is short and the loan is smaller, or brutal because the rate is higher. Compare written total cost of credit plus insurance, not the body style you like.
Insurance follows type
Trafik sigortası is compulsory by plate class. Kasko is typically compulsory for the lender while the pledge is live. Premiums move with vehicle value, theft statistics, engine, and use. An LCV used commercially is not priced like a hatchback parked at a residence.
If kasko is declined or priced as a special risk (high-theft model, incomplete extras list, commercial use), the loan can be approved on paper and still not disburse. Get an insurance quote on the specific vehicle, not a blog average.
How to check type before you commit
- Read the ruhsat: cins, usage, fuel, engine, registration date.
- Ask the lender: “Do you finance this class, new and used, at this age and mileage?”
- If the seller cannot produce a clean ruhsat copy, stop.
- Price kasko and trafik on that plate class.
- Only then talk deposit.
A test drive does not change the product sheet.
Expats and type
Foreign customers already face ID and income friction. Adding a non-standard type (motorcycle, ticari van, import) stacks two hard files. If you need a simple first car in Turkey, a standard passenger car on a clear ruhsat is the path more desks recognise. That is operations, not taste.
Disclaimer: General information only. Not financial, legal, or insurance advice. Valrun does not lend and does not rank vehicles or banks. Eligibility by vehicle type, use, age, and mileage is set by each lender and can change. Confirm the class on the ruhsat against the current product sheet before you pay a deposit.
