Easy credit can keep asking prices sticky, but your loan amount is the appraisal and the bank’s LTV, not the sticker on the windscreen. Treat a campaign rate as a quote for that VIN, at that term, after insurance. It is not a law that the car is “cheap this month.”
This is general information, not a price index and not a loan offer. Valrun is not a lender and does not forecast the used-car market. Confirm numbers on a written offer.
Two prices, one plate
In Turkey you meet at least two numbers:
- The transaction price: what the dealer or private seller will take, in cash or on invoice.
- The financeable value: what ekspertiz assigns, and what the bank will lend as a share of that.
Campaigns, list prices, and “0 faiz” banners live in the first world. Your installment lives in the second. When those two diverge, you pay the gap in cash. That gap is part of the real price. People who only compare stickers miss it.
A third number is the all-in monthly: installment plus kasko plus trafik, plus MTV when it hits, plus fuel and service. A car that “fits” on a 48-month quote can fail that third number.
How credit conditions leak into asking prices
When taşıt kredisi is easier (more desks open, longer terms, more used cars eligible), sellers can hold asking prices because buyers can stretch. When credit tightens (higher rates, shorter max vade, narrower age/km bands, lower LTV), cash buyers and people who still clear the bands have more leverage. This is a market mechanism, not a calendar you can circle.
You cannot usefully time this from a blog. You can usefully ask:
- Is my down payment large enough if LTV is conservative?
- If the bank cuts the used-car year band next month, is this car still inside it today?
- Is the dealer financing a high sticker with a pretty rate?
Dealer and captive-finance campaigns sometimes bake interest into the list price. Cash buyers may be able to negotiate off that sticker. Credit buyers who only look at the installment donate the embedded interest. Ask for the cash price and the financed price as two quotes on the same car.
Appraisal haircuts are a price, not an insult
Ekspertiz is not trying to validate your negotiation. It is trying to set a collateral value. High-mileage, damage, missing extras, an unpopular colour, a flood or hail record, and a ruhsat that says ticari when you wanted passenger all pull the number down.
Illustrative only: asking 1,200,000 TRY, appraisal 1,050,000 TRY, LTV 70 percent of appraisal. Loan 735,000 TRY. Cash needed 465,000 TRY plus fees, not 360,000 TRY. If you already spent your cash on a deposit and a “small” down payment, the file is dead.
Used-car classifieds in Turkey often price off replacement cost and emotion. Banks price off resale of pledged collateral. Those methods disagree. Plan for disagreement.
Campaigns versus the invoice
New-car campaigns (manufacturer, dealer, bank) can be real. They can also be:
- A rate that applies only with a large down payment
- A term so short the installment is unusable
- A trim that is not in stock, so you are moved onto a costlier VIN
- Compulsory extras (alarm, film, underseal) added to the invoice
- Kasko steered to a partner insurer at a premium you did not model
Compare total cost of credit on the written form, same term, same down payment, same VIN. Then add the insurance quotes. Then add notary or registration costs for used cars.
If two banks quote different LTVs on the same appraisal, the cheaper-looking rate can still leave you with a larger cash hole. Cash hole is price.
Personal loans distort the sticker in another way
When a car is outside taşıt kredisi bands, sellers still list it at “credit-friendly” prices because someone will take an ihtiyaç kredisi. That does not make the car cheaper. It means the interest sits on an unsecured loan while the car depreciates unpledged. Your total paid can exceed a tighter, cheaper taşıt kredisi on a more boring, eligible car.
Do not use a personal-loan installment to justify a classifieds price the car would not fetch in a pledged sale.
Depreciation and the remaining principal
A new car loses value fastest early. A used car may have already taken that hit, then loses more with km and age. The loan principal falls on the bank’s schedule, which is not the market’s schedule. If you must sell in year two, you can owe more than a buyer will pay, especially after a weak appraisal on the way in.
That gap is also a price of using credit. It is why a larger down payment is not moral advice. It is how you avoid being underwater on a pledged plate.
Inflation, TRY, and sticky ask
In a high-inflation environment, TRY stickers reset often. Credit that is still available at long terms can keep showroom prices from falling even when volumes drop. Your salary is documented in today’s payslips. The car’s next insurance renewal is next year’s premium. Model a buffer. Do not treat this year’s campaign installment as a permanent cost.
Valrun will not invent a live rate or a national average price. Your quote is the one on paper this week.
What to do with this as a buyer
- Get a cash price and a financed price for the same vehicle.
- Ask the lender what they will use as value: invoice, list, or ekspertiz.
- Keep cash for the appraisal gap, notary, and first kasko.
- Ignore “prices only go up” as a reason to skip the gap fund.
- If the only way the monthly works is a longer term on a fast-depreciating car, the price is the term, not the sticker.
Sellers know buyers shop monthly payments. That is why stickers stay high when credit is open. Your defence is the written LTV, the appraisal, and the insurance line, not a feeling that credit made the car affordable.
Expats
You may be used to invoice-based lending in another country. Many Turkish used-car files are appraisal-based. If your cash is in another currency, conversion and the day you transfer also move the real TRY price. The bank will still lend in TRY against a TRY valuation.
